Because people's tastebuds change as they grow older (I don't enjoy sweets nearly as much as when I was young for example). I disagree with the poster who said that adults don't "really " like the taste of coffee—it depends on where you get it I've had extremely high wellmade coffee from places that know how to treat their beans and water quality and regulate the temperature etc. and it's delicious. But a lot of "everyday " coffee is acidic and sour and so on and that's why you need so much milk and sugar to make it palatable. |

Your tastebuds become less sensitive as you age. most things that i wouldn't eat or drink as a kid i enjoy now. |

I doubt that coffee actually tastes better to adults than it does to children. Instead, we acquire a taste for coffee because that's what other adults do (i.e. peer pressure, albeit extremely weak) and because we want the caffeine. I know any number of adults who still think coffee is nasty. |

When you are a baby, you not only have tastebuds on your tounge, but also on the sides and roof of your mouth. Therfore, tastes come off as much stronger. When you age, the taste buds in these areas disappear so you only have tastebuds on your tounge. Coffee is a bitter, strong, acidic drink, so with all of those extra tastebuds, it can be unpleasant! If someone smokes, they can't taste as well as a non-smoker. Some adults don't like coffee, and I personally think it's because they don't know how to fix it the right way. It's not like it's a sophisticated taste. The first time I drank coffee, it was black, and bitter, so I "hated " coffee. But my mom made some coffee with a dash of half-and-half, cinnamon, and some Splenda, and I loved it. |
